What’s your dream adventure bike? A F650 Dakar, BMW X-Challenge, KTM690, DRZ400, or perhaps the XT660z Tenere? These are just some of the tried and tested bikes used by overland riders worldwide. (We’ll almost, some Americans are still bitter about Yamaha not realising the Tenere there.)
Now there’s a new overlander to add to the mix, the CCM 450GP. Produced by Bolton (UK) based off-road bike specialists CCM, the 450GP is a new lightweight purpose build adventure bike that looks set to duke it out with the old tried and tested models.
Utilising a detuned BMW G450X engine, and a custom made bonded frame, the bike weighs just 135KG fully fuelled. That’s substantially less than the popular 650cc bikes, and even lighter than Suzuki’s DRZ400.
The bike comes equipped with high quality rims, 45mm Marzocchi forks, Brembo brakes, a 17 litre tank, luggage rack and hard wearing bearings all round. In fact, bar the addition of some luggage, the CCM is ready to tour right from the factory. Not many bikes in the 450-700cc class can say that.
The 450GP retails at £7995 but considering the quality of the parts used, that’s not a bad price. It’s available to order now from CCM Motorcycles with delivery for around Spring 2014. That gives you plenty of time to save up for some of impressive range of accessories and modifications on offer for the bike.
CCM have created their own rack and luggage system, and even a purpose built crate for shipping your bike to it’s next adventure destination. Additionally, there’s a power plug to boost the engine power from 40bhp to 54bhp (voids warranty), and high power alternator, as well as a faux exhaust storage canister, and rally bash guard container.
Could this be the perfect lightweight adventure bike? I guess we’ll find out more once orders start being delivered. In the meant time check out the 450GP thread at ADVrider for the latest discussion on the bike and a few test ride reviews. Alternatively read what Ride Magazine had to say about the bike.
There is a very strong ADV Bike Fraternity down here in Australia. Most long distance ADV Riders agree with Noah Horack,(ktm 690 fanatic of 3 year’s wwtrave), that we need a long distance mechanical steed that will weigh in under 140kg. The CCM 450GP seems to tick all the boxes…… Only time will tell if the mechanics at Bolton will have pulled off the ultimate challenge and give the world a bike that can handle the stresses of ADV and long gaps between oil changes.
The reviews have sen to be too good to be true…
When will we see an Australain Dealer take up the challenge and give the Aussie Battler a chance to ride the bigger miles/kilometres of the southern hemisphere??
I have considered the CCM, but I’m finding even the xCountry laborious on some of the roads I travel. I’m leaning very strongly towards the KTM 690 with appropriate mods of course.
